About us

The Centre of Research Excellence for the Development of Innovative Therapies for Psychiatric Disorders (CREDIT)
Our story

CREDIT was established in 2018 after being awarded a grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

The centre was established to facilitate a new, highly innovative and co-ordinated approach to treatment discovery in mental health care, an approach never seen before in Australia.

Our Geelong based team is led by Professor Michael Berk and sits within The Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT) at Deakin University. Discover more about our institute below.

What we do

Our team work to advance a national strategy and platform supporting the development and translation of novel therapies for the most prevalent and disabling neuropsychiatric disorders – like depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

CREDIT supports change in two ways:

  1. Pursuing multiple lines of evidence to rapidly honein on beneficial medications and lifestyle treatments
  2. Helping to grow the practical requirements – including resources for participants, clinical trial networks, and guidelines – that can see new discoveries reach real-world application

This work requires diverse minds, generous collaboration, and a mindset of innovation. And it includes conversations with a strong cross-section of government, research, healthcare professionals, and the community.
